BIOGRAPHY: Shamia "Mia" Leverette

As Upsize Marketing Strategies (UMS) Digital Marketing & Research Associate, Shamia “Mia” Leverette develops social media and digital marketing plans for clients and assists with economic development marketing tactics and research. Using her experience with integrated marketing and social media content development and strategies, Shamia strives to enhance the client's brand exposure across constantly evolving social media platforms.

Mia has nearly seven years of experience in developing email, social media, and digital marketing strategies. Prior to joining UMS, Shamia worked as Vice President of Marketing & Sales for Magnolia Federal Credit Union. During her tenure there,, she moved up the ranks, starting as Social Media Coordinator, then Marketing & Business Development Manager before being promoted to Vice President. In that role, she led the nonprofit financial institution’s marketing efforts, resulting in Magnolia FCU being awarded “Best Credit Union of Mississippi” three years in a row.

Her work made her aware of the lack of financial literacy in her home state of Mississippi. This fueled her drive to become a Certified Financial Counselor and her passion to teach and share financial literacy to children in underserved areas. Shamia launched campaigns and programs that encouraged students to value financial literacy.

Shamia is very active in her community.  She serves as Board Chair of the Business Development  Committee for the Rankin County Chamber, Board Treasurer for the Jackson Credit Union Chapter, and as a community leader in LEAD (Leaders Engaging in Action & Development), a program aimed at the development of future credit union leaders in Mississippi.

She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Integrated Marketing Communications and Business from the University of  Mississippi and is currently seeking her Masters in Economic Development at the University of Southern Mississippi. She is an active member of the  International Economic Development Council (IEDC) and the Mississippi Economic Development Council (MEDC).
